Mike –
I have hunted turkeys primarily in Georgia for the past 45 years with my Remington 1187 Special Purpose 12 ga shotgun. Recently I won a Weatherby SA 459 Turkey Xtra Green 20 ga shotgun. I decided to purchase a box of Federal TSS 1 1/2 oz Heavyweight ammo in #9 shot to see the pattern at 40 yards when using a Carlson XR choke. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see a well-balanced shot pattern. I was so impressed with the pattern; I feel confident in being able to take a gobbler at 45 or even 50 yards. In fact, I plan on turkey hunting with my 20 ga and Federal TSS ammo next year. I have no doubt Federal TSS ammo will even be effective for varmint hunting. While a box of 5 3' TSS shells tends to be a little pricey, the confidence created when shooting this ammo is well worth it. I do recommend using Federal TSS ammo when turkey hunting.
